Play review of Mamma Mia

The play is called Mamma Mia and the author is Catherine Johnson. I view it at Feb 28/2020 in Little Black Box Theater. The director is called Mrs. Guarino. The overall plot of the play is a girl is about to marry. But she wants to invite his dad to attend her wedding. However, she has three possible dad. As a result, she brings all three dads come to wedding. At wedding, one of three dad become the official dad of the girl, but that girl no longer wants to marry. Then they start wedding for girl's mom and dad. There are something that the author especially highlight. First scene is when the girl invite all three fathers. Second is her mom meets all three fathers. Third is all three fathers attention the wedding. The reason that the author emphasized these scene is because it helps to push the plot. Because the attitude of three fathers change how things going. In first scene, all of them are confuse about why they are there because they didn't get invited. In second scene, they are astonished because they don't know why she knows all of three. In third scene, they all get scared that all of them are possible dad then they get released. 

The author design the theme of this play is energetic and summer style. Because the costume of the play are all summer wears. It helps to create the scene that it's an energetic play and summer represents the it's the time of wedding. To show that the characters that in the play are doing things like younger generations. The setting of the stage is different than others. There are two high stages on sides and standard stage in middle. By putting things on two high stages, when there are no one act on high stages, it's able to limit the area of acting stage and easier for audience to pay attention on standard stage. When there are players acting on higher stage, it can create a sense that they are sit far from the stage that able to larger the acting area. Also, player comes out many different places. It allowed players moving a lot and matches the energetic theme of the play. Furthermore, players singing instead of speaking normally. By singing the lyric, it match the theme of the play which is energetic. Also, by singing out, it's easier to catch audiences attention and easy for audience to understand what's happening. The lighting of the play is brightest I had ever seen. Because bright light means hope and in the place, it represents good ending.

One scene that I remember and feels impressive is the wedding of girl's dad and mom. Because this scene is suddenly happened. The wedding setting is originally design for girl's wedding, but later somehow becomes others. I think the reason that the director do this is want to set the environment in energetic mode. Because when girl says I don't want to marry you, and all three fathers arguing about who is her dad. The environment of that moment would be sad, angry. In order to avoid these emotions, the director uses this comic scene to change the emotion of the whole scene back to theme.

I think Elena performs excellent in play. Because she plays mom and she shows exact emotion propel when three fathers comes in. The astonishing and angry shows exactly at that point. Also, the characteristic  of her character is rich and enjoy alone. The way that she enjoy the life exactly shows she is rich. When fathers comes to find her and ask weather they can attend the wedding. The emotion and voice shows she really hates them interrupt their lives.

Overall I like this play and the rest of audiences seems very enjoy. Because music corporate the play well and the whole plot is energetic and easy to bring good mood. There are lots of comic factor in the play and the plot is really interesting. I learn how music play work in the theater. The style of music can affect the whole theme of the play. In this play the music is happy, fun that affect the mood of the play even there is an argument happened in the scene.
